Tubara Privacy & Data FAQ for Parents
What information does Tubara collect about my children?
We collect only what's needed for the service: Name and age (encrypted and stored securely) Avatar and theme preferences (for personalization) Watch history (what channels/videos they view, when, and for how long) Screen time data (to help you manage limits)
We don't collect:
photos, location data, school information, friends lists, or any social media data.
What about my information as a parent?
We collect:
Email address (for your account login) Password (encrypted - we never store plain text passwords) Subscription tier (Free, Starter, or Unlimited) Payment information (handled by Stripe - we never see your card details)
Why do you need my child's age?
Age is essential for safety! We use it to: Show only age-appropriate content (no scary videos for younger kids) Apply correct screen time guidelines (WHO/AAP recommendations vary by age) Ensure COPPA compliance (US child protection law) Without age, we can't protect your child properly.
Why do you track what my kids watch?
Three reasons:
- Your insights - You can see what they're learning and if they're watching too much of one topic
- Screen time management - We track total viewing time against your limits
- Safety - If inappropriate content somehow appears, we can identify and block it quickly
You can view or delete watch history anytime from the Parent Dashboard.
Data Safety & Security
How do you protect my family's data? Multiple layers of protection: - Encryption - All sensitive data (names, ages, passwords) encrypted in our database - Secure hosting - Database hosted on Neon (enterprise-grade PostgreSQL) - No public access - Your data is never publicly visible - Separate family accounts - Each family's data is completely isolated - Regular security audits - We use Aikido Security scanning (currently 100% security score)
Who can see my child's data?
- Only you - Parents in your Tubara account can see child profiles, watch history, and analytics.
- Not us - Tubara staff cannot view your children's names, ages, or watch history without your explicit consent (e.g., if you report a bug and ask us to investigate).
- Not YouTube - We use privacy-enhanced YouTube embedding (youtube-nocookie.com) which limits tracking.
- Not advertisers - We don't run ads or share data with third parties.
What about YouTube? Do they track my kids?
We use privacy-enhanced mode (youtube-nocookie.com) which:
✅ Doesn't set tracking cookies unless your child clicks on the video ✅ Doesn't build a profile across sites ✅ Doesn't show personalized ads on embedded videos
However, if your child clicks a video and interacts with it, YouTube's standard privacy policy applies to that specific session.
Important:
Your child can NEVER leave Tubara to go to YouTube directly - no links, no navigation, no way out.
Your Rights & Control
Can I see all the data you have about my family?
Yes! Go to Parent Dashboard → Privacy → Data Management and click "Export My Data". You'll get a complete download of:
- Account information
- All child profiles
- Watch history
- Analytics data
- Subscription details
You'll see everything we store, in a standard format (.json or .csv) you can open in any spreadsheet.
Can I delete my data?
Absolutely. You have three options:
- Delete a child profile - Removes that child's data but keeps your account
- Delete specific watch history - Clear individual sessions or entire history
- Delete entire account - Removes everything permanently
Go to Parent Dashboard → Privacy → Data Rights for all deletion options.
Important:
Deletion is permanent and cannot be undone!
What happens to my data if I cancel my subscription?
If you downgrade from paid to free: ✅ All your data stays (channels, profiles, watch history) ✅ You keep access to 4 channels (you'll need to remove extras)
If you delete your account:
❌ All data deleted within 30 days ❌ Cannot be recovered
How long do you keep my data?
While your account is active: Indefinitely (so your kids' watch history and analytics remain available) After account deletion: Deleted within 30 days, except:
Financial records (kept 7 years for UK tax law) Anonymized analytics (e.g., "Family deleted account because..." - no personal data)
You can configure automatic data deletion in Privacy Settings if you want shorter retention.

Can my child contact other children on Tubara?
No! Tubara has:
❌ No chat features ❌ No comments ❌ No social features ❌ No way to communicate with other users
It's purely for watching curated content - completely isolated and safe. What if there's a data breach? We take security seriously, but if the worst happens:
Immediate action - We'll secure the breach within hours You're notified - Email within 72 hours (GDPR requirement) Regulatory notification - We report to ICO (UK regulator) Transparency - We'll explain exactly what happened and what data was affected
Thankfully, our security is strong:

Can government/police access my data?
Only with: A valid court order or warrant Legal authority in your jurisdiction Proper legal process
We will:
✅ Challenge overly broad requests ✅ Notify you if legally permitted ✅ Provide minimum necessary data only
We've never received such a request (we'll update this if it changes). What about cookies and tracking? Tubara uses:
Essential cookies only - For login sessions (you can't use the service without these) No advertising cookies - We don't track you across sites No third-party tracking - No Facebook pixel, Google Analytics with tracking, etc.
YouTube videos use privacy-enhanced embedding which minimizes cookies.
Using Tubara Safely
Should I share my Tubara login with my children? No! The Parent Dashboard contains:
Payment information Ability to add/remove channels Access to all child profiles Billing settings
Children should only access the home page ("Who's Watching Today") and select their profile. They can't reach the Parent Dashboard without your password.
Can I create profiles for children of different ages?
Yes! Each child gets:
Their own profile with age-appropriate filtering Personalized avatar and theme Separate watch history and favorites Individual screen time limits
Example: Ben (5yo) only sees preschool content, while Holly (10yo) sees more advanced channels - all managed from one family account.
What if my child sees something inappropriate?
Immediately:
Remove the channel - Go to Parent Dashboard → Channels → Remove Report to us - Email safety@tubara.world with details Blacklist the channel - Prevents accidental re-adding
We'll investigate and potentially blacklist the channel for all users if it violates our content standards.
Questions About Deletion
If I delete my child's profile, what happens? Deleted immediately and permanently:
❌ Child's name and age ❌ Their watch history ❌ Screen time data ❌ Avatar and theme preferences ❌ Their favorites
This cannot be undone! Your other children's profiles and your account remain untouched. Can I delete just the watch history? Yes! Go to Parent Dashboard → Privacy → Watch History and choose:
Delete specific sessions Delete last 7/30/90 days Delete everything
The profile stays, just the viewing data is removed. What if I just want to take a break? You don't need to delete anything! Just:
Downgrade to Free tier (keeps all data) Log out (data remains secure) Come back anytime
Your data is safe and waiting when you return.
